To make it easier for you to control costs when you access email or the internet from abroad, we have introduced spend caps and spend notifications for data roaming.
Whenever you use data abroad, you will receive a text message telling you how much you've spent on data roaming so far in the month, and then another text when you reach the spend cap.
The text message will be sent to your mobile phone inbox, or to the SMS inbox on your mobile broadband dashboard.
There are two monthly spend caps of €50 and €300. Both spend caps apply if you pay the standard per-MB rate for data roaming.
The €50 spend cap equates to about 10MB of data usage, enough to view about 200 emails or 80 web pages.
If you are on one of our data roaming plans, then only the €300 spend cap applies. You may still request to be capped at €50, but to do so you must cancel your data roaming plan. If you do decide to cancel your data roaming plan, then the €50 cap will automatically be applied to your account.
When you reach a spend cap, you can still extend past it - you simply need to text a command to a Short Code.
Instructions for this are outlined below, and are also sent to you in both text notifications you receive when abroad.
Text ‘PASS EU CAP’ to 50193.
If you extend past the spend cap, your usage beyond the spend cap will continue to be charged according to your price plan.
You can choose to opt out of the spend caps entirely - however, we do not recommend this as these controls are for your benefit.
