Cellhire: mobile phone rentals
Our roaming coverage has expanded yet again thanks to our roaming service with Cellhire. Now you can hire a compatible roaming handset if you're travelling to Japan, South Korea and South America.
South America
We have extensive coverage in South American across many networks. If you choose to roam on the Nextel network, this requires a specific handset (the iden2000) which is available for rental through Cellhire. The number for Cellhire is 0044 1904 610610.
This handset works as a GSM handset with the same features and services. Once you receive the handset you simply insert your Vodafone SIM card and you can make and receive calls as usual. Call charges for using the Nextel network will be charged to your Vodafone monthly bill (see Vodafone World roaming rates for the Americas).
Japan and South Korea
These destinations work on a non-GSM network and require specific handsets which are available for rental through Cellhire. When you receive this handset you will also be given a temporary mobile number for use within these countries. All call charges will be deducted from your credit card details as given when booking the handset rental. These charges are available on the Cellhire website.
You are not able to divert your Vodafone mobile number to the mobile number given for Japan and South Korea. We recommend that you change your Voicemail message giving the new temporary number so that you can be contacted while you're away.
