Handy hints for roaming

Make sure Vodafone has coverage at your destination.

How much you pay depends on where you’re travelling, what bill pay plan you're on, and whether you've signed up for Vodafone Passport.

Most of our phones will work just about anywhere, but if you're visiting the USA, Canada or South America you'll need a triband phone.

In the Caribbean, you may need a quadband phone. If you're going to Japan or South Korea, be aware that these countries work on a non-GSM network.

If you don’t have a 3G or quadband phone and you’re heading to Japan, South Korea or South America, you can hire a compatible phone for the duration of your trip from Cellhire. To book your rental before you go, visit the Cellhire website or email vodafone_ireland@cellhire.com

Depending on your insurance agreement, you may be covered for loss or theft of your phone while you’re away. Make sure you check the details of your insurance before you leave by calling Customer Care or referring to your original insurance agreement.

For free Customer Care while roaming, dial 00353 1 203 8232 from your Vodafone mobile.

• Make sure you have a compatible power adapter so you can charge your phone.
• Store your numbers with Ireland’s international prefix 00 353 (e.g. 00 353 87 123 4567).
• In most countries, you can dial 171 to hear your Voicemail, just as you would at home. In some countries, you’ll need to dial into your mailbox. Just follow these steps:
  1. Key in your international mailbox number by dialling a ‘5’ after the 87 prefix (e.g. 00 353 87 5 123 4567).
  2. When you hear your greeting, press # to interrupt it.
  3. Key in your password (which is 0000, unless you have personalised it).
  4. Press # and then 1 to listen to your messages.

Some airlines now allow passengers to use their mobile during flights. Vodafone Ireland provides connection to the OnAir network, which means you can stay in touch during your flight on aircraft that offer the service. Making and receiving a call costs €2.19 per minute. Sending a text costs 42c and receiving a text is free*.

When the aircraft reaches cruising altitude the crew will inform you that you can use your mobile or the Inflight Mobile light in the panel above your head will be switched on.

When you reach your destination outside of Ireland, usual Vodafone Passport or Vodafone World roaming rates will apply.

While we cannot guarantee coverage when you're travelling at sea, customers may be able to pick up some maritime service providers. Making and receiving a call will cost €2.19 (inc VAT) per minute.  Sending a text costs 29c and receiving a text is free*.
