Typing and editing shortcuts for your BlackBerry

You can streamline your BlackBerry experience with a variety of shortcuts designed to make typing, editing and navigating on your handheld quicker and easier.

Composing messages

To type an address in the Use Once fieldPress 'U'
To insert characters in an email fieldPress the space bar once to insert an '@' symbol and twice to  insert a  full stop: '.'

General shortcuts

To create capital lettersPress and hold a letter key to capitalise it. This feature only works if Key Rate (Options menu: Screen/Keyboard) is set to either Slow or Dast. You may activate CAPS LOCK by holding ALT + SHIFT. Press SHIFT again to return to lower case.
To insert a full stopPress the space bar twice.
To scroll through special charactersPress and hold a letter key while rolling the trackwheel.
To access common symbolsPress and hold the ALT key while pressing the space bar/symbol key.
To customise AutoTextThis is a predictive feature which shortens common words. For example, use your initials to type your name. Go to Options menu-AutoText to learn more.

From your address book

To shorten the listType the letters of a name to bring up all relevant entries
To search all addressesType a contact's initials separated by a space

From the options list

To modify an option fieldHold down ALT while scrolling to cycle through available choices
To jump to the next optionPress a letter to jump the cursor to the next option starting with that letter

To select multiple items from a listHold down the SHIFT key while scrolling
